An exhibition by UK based artists hosted by Xi'an Academy of Fine Art. Co-curated by Xing Zhang and myself along with Robert Priseman and Matthew Krishanu of Contemporary British Painting. I am very excited to have been able to work on this project since June of this year. We are very grateful for the support offered by Xi'an Academy and for being invitied to teach drawing there just prior to the exhibition. An exhilarating and wonderful experience.

Three paintings in progress. This is part of a continuing series inspired by the photos of Roger Fenton during the Crimean War. I am currently making use of figures with horses (...or camel in one case) and think of them as equivalents of satyr figures as depicted in earlier art traditions. All three are oil on paper, around 150 x 90cm.
some abstract sketches completed recently. these are a side-ways step from the previous 'fenton' paintings, working with depth, light, composition and trompe-l'oeil. Installation of 7 drawings at OpenHandOpen Space, Reading, 24-28th September (from top to bottom, Cally Trench, Tineke Bruijnzeels, Marco Cali. One drawing made per day during week of 9th September 2013).
